Ordover Gallery: Mitch Dobrowner

I went to this gallery with Nicole! We both agreed that our favorite artist is Mitch Dobrowner. I really enjoyed his work because like myself, I like to take pictures of nature and landscapes. His pictures are all in black and white showing the vast horizon of the Earth and the natural phenomenons that occur in it. His work invokes a eerie, yet beautiful feeling that makes me feel at awe with how well he captured the Earth as well as amazed that something like that exist! I couldn't find the picture I liked at the museum at the moment but going to the webpage I found one that also look just as awesome!

Angel's Tree

Viva la revolucion!!!

This is the museum in downtown. I had to go there for another class so it was like killing two birds with one stone. It was pretty cool! For the other class we had to answer these questions and I was put into a group of people that I didn't know but that's fine.. anyways, my favorite piece was one I unfortunately forgot the name of but it was a pimped out bike thing that looked really fancy. I think what the artist was going for was to make it so ultra fancy that it rendered it useless. The other art piece that I enjoyed was the room with the numerous photos of people and the video projection at the end showing a point of view shot of someone walking around a city in what seems like some place in South America. I liked it because it kind of gave me an idea of what it was like to be someone from that region on Earth. The video raised my awareness of the lifestyle of the impoverish and less fortunate. That wasn't my favorite because it made me kind of sad but even so, it impact me in a positive way.

triptychs and diptychs

For my triptychs and diptychs I wasn't sure which one to pick of so I just decided to do all of them.

Patrick Ferrell

So in class we watched a photographer that did a photo documentary on the Hurricane in Haiti and all his pictures really touched me. It made me empathize with the Haitian people, especially for the man grieving over his dead daughter. Seeing that he tried to wash her and dress her properly as a last respect to her was really sad. The whole slideshow made me aware of the things photographers have to go through to be able to capture photos to show the public about tragic events.

Edward Burtynsky

I think that I saw this artist in either artist books class or the computer and visual arts class. I'm not sure which one exactly though. But I remember really liking his work. I always thought recycling was a good thing but I never knew what happens after that. His photographs made me think about what happens after what people would think is the end. Which ironically I think, never ends. It reminded of me the plastic Island floating around in the ocean that I've heard about awhile ago where all the trash that has been thrown in the ocean all floats to the plastic island! I should find a picture. anyways, his work really makes me think about how there's always two sides to a story. Nothing can ever be 100% good or 100% bad.

okay, I guess I saw it in artist books class and here's what I wrote about it the first time I saw his work:
